About The Event
Step into the early Stuart era and witness one of the most dramatic and volatile chapters in British history. In this session—James I (1603–1625): The Gunpowder Plot and the Dream of a Unified Kingdom—we explore the political intrigue, religious tension, and monarchical ambition that defined the reign of James VI of Scotland and I of England.
What did it mean for England and Scotland to share a king? Why did a group of Catholic conspirators nearly blow up Parliament in 1605? And how did James's idea of unification shape British identity in the centuries to come?
Guided by Alex, a distinguished scholar and Fellow of multiple prestigious institutions including Christ’s College Cambridge, the McDonald Institute of Archaeological Research, and the Institute for Oriental and Classical Studies at HSE University Moscow, this session brings together historical narrative and critical insight.
