About The Event

In our sixth session, The Life and Times of Elizabeth I (1533–1603), we examine the extraordinary life of the Virgin Queen, whose rule witnessed a flourishing of culture, exploration, and national identity. From the defeat of the Spanish Armada to the vibrant world of Elizabethan theatre, this era stands as a defining moment in English history.


Guided by Alex, a distinguished scholar and Fellow of multiple prestigious institutions including Christ’s College Cambridge, the McDonald Institute of Archaeological Research, and the Institute for Oriental and Classical Studies at HSE University Moscow, this session will explore pressing questions: How did Elizabeth balance power in a male-dominated world? What made her reign so pivotal in shaping the course of English history and its global ambitions?
